Happy First Birthday, Matthew!

I am a little late in posting this, but Matthew turned 1 year old on Wednesday, July 30th. The day was a mix of emotions for me. This time last year is hard to put into words. I am not sure how to explain what I personally went through when I had Matthew. I am still having trouble dealing with his difficult birth, but I have a very special friend who has helped me throughout my "sad" days. I can't thank her enough... Anyway, Matthew is the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me and to Robert. We were so happy that my parents were here for a week too. (I will post pictures very soon.)

Matthew went to the doctor last Thursday for his 12 month check up and weighs 20 1/2 pounds (he's still only in the 10th percentile) and is 29 3/4 inches in length (50th percentile). It looks like he is slightly tall and thin like his daddy. Of course, Rob & I are average, so Matthew should be as well. His pediatrician said he is very healthy and is doing very well for a preemie. He showed off his speedy walking for Dr. Hurley too. Matthew is already a show off... Haha! Oh, and this time nurse Christine was happy that Matthew did not pass out when he had his shot and blood drawn. :) We did decide not to have Matthew get his MMR vaccination. Robert has read a lot about this vaccination having a connection to autism. If anyone has any comments or advice, we would appreciate it. Dr. Hurley said he had no problem putting it off until Matthew is 2 since he isn't in daycare.

Also, we celebrated Matthew's birthday this past Saturday. We had a cookout with family and a few close friends. It was a beautiful day, and Matthew seemed to enjoy his special day. I posted a few pictures below. Thanks so much to everyone that came. Matthew loves his presents too.

Check out Matthew's alligator cupcake cake. My mom & I made it...
